Why eBay?

Why eBay?

An advertising platform like no other

Not only is eBay the worlds’ largest marketplace for consumers but it also represents one of the most exciting opportunities for advertisers too.

As a media vehicle eBay offers a compelling and credible brand. A trusted environment and a strong relationship with its users who are more open to commercial messages in this environment than nearly anywhere else on the web.

With millions of searches and transactions being made across our business every day we have a knowledge of consumer behaviour that is almost unprecedented. It is this knowledge of the consumer that allows us to offer unique levels of targeting available to our advertising clients in their desire for ROI.

As a business we continue to develop an environment that offers not only shopping worth talking about but one in which advertising plays a central role to the experience.

One where the consumer is aided on their journey by display signposts and relevant search listings. Where our advertising customers can take advantage of the power of search and display working alongside one another. Helping to deliver ever increasing relevance, efficiency and performance to their advertising.

eBay offers the branding impact of display combined with the tightly targeted delivery of search marketing all in one highly engaging environment.

… And on top of this, massive audiences and scalability.

What makes an eBay user?

So who is the eBay consumer? Well its a bit like saying who’s the average TV viewer. It doesn’t mean much because actually they are lots of different people. For us and more importantly for you they are defined by what they buy, their interests and passions and not by their age, gender or location.

Our consumers shopping habits and motivations vary enormously. Some are driven purely by price, some by the convenience eBay affords them. Others by the variety they find here and others because they simply love to shop.

Above all we aim to deliver them a shopping experience worth talking about. Its what drives our business and motivates our customers to keep coming back.

Another element that sets our customers apart from the rest is their openness to commercial messages. We know from our own research (e-buyers mindset 2009) that not only are people shopping more online but that they are paying more attention to the messages when they are in that context. 61% said they notice the ads on an e-commerce site vs 37% Search engine vs 13% on a social network vs 18% on a portal.
