Latest Online Business Index Report

Welcome to the Online Business Index – a quarterly report into the attitudes and performance of hundreds of online businesses operating on eBay in the UK.

Every three months, we are taking an in-depth look at how online businesses are faring during the recession.

Over the last 3 months it looks as if E-tail has been giving retail a helping hand with thousands of small high street businesses ensuring a brighter outlook for 2010 by establishing a presence online.

The findings of eBay’s third Online Business Index demolish claims that online retail is responsible for the decline of the traditional high street business. In fact, the majority (79%) of bricks and mortar firms believe the introduction of online trade has saved their business. Furthermore four fifths (80%) of online-only SMEs believe that bricks and mortar businesses are rendered more sustainable by having an online offering as well.

The eBaynomics report 2009

The 2009 eBaynomics shopping report has identified the growing trend of 'Profit Shopping' in the UK, spearheaded by consumers who sell unwanted items to supplement their incomes. Norwich is the UK city with the most profitable casual sellers on eBay.co.uk, with residents of the East Anglian city making £17.2 million through selling on the site in the past year.

The UK's leading ecommerce site analysed millions of transactions across thousands of categories involving casual home sellers and buyers over the past year. The 2009 report reveals interesting insights into how and what we've been selling and buying online.
